Music Product Reviews – Things I will be Taking With Me on the Road

Well it won’t be long before I go on my Cross Canada Tour. Things are coming along great as I have 6 shows in 3 different cities. I would like to take this time to talk about some of the products and music gear that I use. Click on the highlighted text to view these products.

On  my Simon and Patrick folk guitar I use Elixir Acoustic Guitar Strings. I find these strings to be very easy on the fingers and they sounds great. They also last 3 to 5 times longer than the standard brand of guitar strings. They are a little more pricey but well worth it in the end as you get more playing out of them. I highly recommend them. Click on the link above and you can get them cheaper online than you would in the store.

Another product I love to use is the Snark Tuner. It clamps on the the head of your guitar and is very accurate. I love to to take it in my guitar case and use it at gigs. I have found this one to be the best of all the tuners that I’ve had.

For acoustic guitars I am a big fan of Godin Guitars. They are made in Canada and are so easy to play. I just bought a Simon and Patrick which is under the Godin Guitar umbrella. My Simon and Patrick will be coming on the road with me this July and it all maintained and ready to go. Godin guitars are good quality and affordable.

These are all musical products I personally love and use. I have used many of these products frequently and have been very satisfied. Let me know what you think if you choose to purchase any of them yourself.

Just a Post to Say Thank-you

Today I am feeling very grateful. We need to be grateful everyday but today I am especially grateful. I had some pretty awesome people come out to my house concert. I’ve got a lot of people in my life that love me. I am loved. I need to remind myself that I’m loved each and everyday.

The show went well. Stephanie Ratcliff did an awesome job of opening the show. Several people bought her CD’s and she totally shone up there as she performed. I was so grateful to have her come open for me. Then I did my set along with Steve Britten my band mate. Many jokes were told, stories shared and encouraging words given. I raised a bit of money through donations and merch sales to help fund my tour. Apart from raising a few funds the best thing was the support and encouraging words from the people who come out. I am truly blessed. I made a video to express my gratitude.

So July 2nd I will be heading out on tour. I have 5 shows in 3 cities. Apart from the shows I hope that I can make more connections as I travel from city to city. I feel like this summer I will be doing what I’m called and what I was born to do. It’s a great feeling.

Let me tell you the prep for the tour hasn’t all been easy. There was a lot of challenges that came my way. Most of the challenges came through my own self doubt. But to have the house concert and get all the support from the people who came out gave life to this tour. All my hard work of booking the shows, planning and fighting to believe in myself is starting to pay off.

Folks sometimes obstacles get in the way of our dreams and things we’re called to do in life. I’m here to say “Don’t give up!” Each of you is a beautiful soul and has something unique to offer the world. Once again thanks for the love and support!

Cross Canada Tour Update/Sometimes We Just Need to Keep Fighting For What We Love

I was just looking back at my post from February 2 of this year. I was talking about how I wanted to go on a Cross Canada Tour this summer. I wanted to combine music with travel and apply for the Via Rail “Artists on Board Program.” Well the good news is I am going on a music tour this summer.  It will soon be happening in less than a month. In less than a month I will be heading to Halifax with my boyfriend. So far I have 2 shows in Montreal and 2 in Regina. I’m waiting to confirm one in Toronto on the 13th of July. Well this has been my first attempt at going on a music tour. I can’t say I’ve done it it all perfectly. It many ways is a real humble little makeshift music tour. I had this vision of traveling across Canada and sharing my music both at venues in cities along the way and on the Canadian Via Rail trains. As I wrote in my earlier post that Via Rail has an Artist on Board Program where you can ride the train for free in exchange for live performances. My vision was to get on that program so I could ride the train for free and share my music. I applied for the Artist on Board Program but unfortunately did get accepted.

Let me tell you guys when you have a vision and a calling for your life sometimes things can get hard. Sometimes the opposite of what you hope, dream and plan happens. There are road blocks along the way to your dream and your vision. But I want to tell you not to give up! Sometimes even the people closest to us don’t agree with what we are doing with our lives. Often we have to keep going no matter what is thrown against us. We have to be willing not to quit. Yeah there have been times where I’ve wanted to not go through with this tour. I’ve had some rejection, some set backs, some people not quite getting what I’m doing and the biggest thing is that I’ve struggled with my own self doubt. But I have to make a choice, I have to stay true to the vision I committed myself to this summer. I have to keep going when the pressure is on. And believe me the pressure can come on quite strong. I want to encourage you guys not to give up. Make it your goal to pursue what you love relentlessly. Your life may not look like what everyone else’s does but you are a unique individual.

So the latest with me? I will be putting on a house concert next Saturday June 13 at 7:30pm in my buildings common room. I will be taking donations at the door and will have some artwork and crafts for sale too.  There will be free food and drinks with some great live music. Stephanie Ratcilff a local Vancouver musician will be there performing too. It will be a great night.

I am still going to go on my tour. You can check my “Shows” page for details. I plan to update on my blog as I go this summer. I also have a Crowd Funding Campaign that I put together. If you want to donate to my tour that would be awesome. For your donation you can claim “perks.” Click on the link above to support the tour.
Happy dreaming, creating and doing what you love to do,
